The United Kingdom Set to Use Immobilized Russia's Assets to Finance the Ukrainian War Effort
The British government is ready to advance with utilizing the total value of frozen Russian funds to bolster Ukraine's military campaign, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a shared declaration, the officials of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this unified step would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Moscow to participate in talks.
They further noted that the move would be executed in close cooperation with the America.
United Kingdom penalties have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's resources since Moscow launched its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. But, up to this point, funds sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had only been taken from earnings and returns accrued on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were in agreement in their goal to advance efforts toward using the complete amount of the frozen Russian sovereign assets to conclude the conflict.
He noted that further restrictions soon would apply more pressure on Moscow.
This announcement follows European officials met in Copenhagen recently to discuss employing seized Russian funds for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, US President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to confiscate or employ seized Russian holdings, as reported by media sources.
The value of frozen Russia's funds in the European Union is assessed to be almost €211bn.

The Russian government carried out extensive missile and drone strikes all over the Ukrainian territory on recently, causing power cuts in many areas of the capital city, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.
A pair of individuals were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the assault, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a message on X subsequent to the incident, Zelensky stated that the premeditated assault aimed at non-military and power facilities.
"What is required is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the United States, EU, and the G7 - in supplying defense mechanisms and implementing restrictions," he stated.
"Each restrictive measure weakens the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a different message.
Also on Friday, Zelensky stated to the press he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement program, under which alliance members buy arms from the America to donate to Ukraine.
While applauding the UK's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the initiative, as well as impose additional restrictions on the Russian Federation.
