An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the man proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
