Donald Trump's System of Consequences and Incentives

The ex-president's voracious desire for retribution has quickly transformed into a structured framework. During the year since his election, the chief executive's fury and whims have adopted the shape of administrative measures similar to analogous to earlier dictatorial systems. Justice department figures who resist his demands are promptly removed and substituted by supporters. Political officials who confront him face prosecution, court proceedings and sanctions. Adversaries have been labeled under presidential orders as “hostile to national interests”, “anti-Christian” and “against free markets”, and warned with criminal charges as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Transformed

Each instance involving targeting of critics and leniency for loyalists exhibits its own particular qualities. Yet, regardless of their particular character, they exemplify expressions of what has developed as a deliberate approach. Such incidents are anything but random. The administration's cleansing of DoJ attorneys and FBI personnel, alongside his placement of supporters in high-level posts, began rapidly, promptly developed a pattern, and has now been shaped into a system. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been remade into ideological organizations under the president's clear direction to implement his directives. Unfairness has been rendered normal. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Administration is preoccupied with targeting the leader's supposed adversaries than they are with defending our country's safety.

Within the Structure

The foundation of this mechanism has been revealed in the court filing of several previous top Federal Bureau agents filed in September in the judicial system in DC against FBI director an administration figure and justice department head a key figure for illegal termination in “a campaign of retribution against Plaintiffs for what the accused deemed to be a refusal to exhibit proper political loyalty”. The document states that a former acting director, the previous temporary head, describes a conversation in which Patel “openly acknowledged the impropriety of his actions”.

Driscoll had tried to protect FBI agents from being terminated, the complaint claims. Patel advised him that “White House figures” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to fire anyone who they determined as having worked on a legal probe against the president. The complaint continues: “He clarified that he had to terminate the personnel his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own role depended on the ouster of the officials who worked on investigations involving the President. Patel noted that there was no option he or the official could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the agency attempted to incarcerate the chief in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” After Driscoll advised Patel he was breaking the bureau's own regulations, Patel supposedly said “he understood that and he realized the essence of the swift terminations were almost certainly improper”.

Extensive Impact

Following Patel's alleged confession to him, the Department of Justice and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and redirected for Trump's revenge apparatus. Multiple of the agency's senior executives were fired or compelled to leave in the initial period of the government. About thousands of lawyers at the justice department have taken a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of multiple federal prosecutors, among them those in the New York office, quit in objection over what they viewed as ideological pressure in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the city leader, a political figure, in exchange for his collaboration with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of migrants. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: 70% of its staff has departed. 33% of senior leaders at the department have quit. The unit implementing ecological regulations has lost a majority its leadership.

Rewards and Sanctions

Concerning the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the southern district of New York, Danielle Sassoon, resigned in dissent against what she labeled as the “trade-off”. A key figure, the president's “immigration leader,” showed up as the agent with Adams on television to announce: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in the city.”. And, another figure, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a past legal representative, who arranged the arrangement, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a possible stepping stone to the judicial branch.

His protection for wrongdoings carried out while in government, awarded by the remarkable judgment of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus preventing his criminal case over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his public standing for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he depends to protect his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to enable wrongdoing. The consequence of the supreme court decision infuses his presidency and the GOP completely. The court matter has spread.
