A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Powerful Theme of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”

Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup

The track was produced after a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The song blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.

The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.

“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”

The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
